Three-phase, half-wave circuit. An uncontrolled three-phase, half-wave circuit requires three diodes, one connected to each phase. This is the simplest type of three-phase rectifier but suffers from relatively high harmonic distortion on both the AC and DC connections. The three-phase full-wave phase controlled rectifier is analysed in this chapter by considering an R-L load and continuous conduction. Voltage and current expressions, frequency spectrum, power and distortion factors are derived using the switching function.
